SC Railroad Car Shop (c. 1851)
Located on Line Street, the South Carolina Railroad Car Shop is the last remaining piece of the old SCRR shop facilities that once dotted the nothern part of the city. It once contained a Blacksmith shop, Machine Shop, Carpentry Shop, Circular Rounhouse in addition to the car shops. The structures dated from the middle of the 19th century and were all demolished except the Car Shop in 1957 when Southern Railroad decided to move its facilities to 7 mile yard. The Car Shop is now in use by a storage facility which has stabilized the smoke stack, after Hurricane Hugo damaged it.
