Westminister Depot Fire 1/2006
Southern Railroad Depot (c. 1916)
The Westminster Depot fire on 1/17/2006 has officialy been declared an arson. The depot was completely gutted, but its walls and its roof remain intact. If possible the town does want to rebuilt but the station is still on railroad land even thought the depot is owned by the town. A suspect has been arrested for the arson.
On 2/22/2006 I visited the depot. The damage to the station was worse than I had suspected. Even though a month had passed and several storms, the smell of the burned station still lingered in the air. I took the following photos of the damage.
The old waiting rooms seem to have taken the worst damage. On the freight side the walls seemed almost untouched with the paint still on it. Although the roof shows a great deal of damage.
